The Fatimid Dynasty was an Isma'ili Shia Muslim caliphate that ruled over much of North Africa and the Mediterranean from the 10th to the 12th century. The dynasty was founded by Abdullah al-Mahdi Billah in 909 CE and lasted until the Ayyubid conquest of Egypt in 1171 CE.
