The first successful animal clone was Dolly sheep on 5$^{th}$July 1996. It was born as a resultant of three mother one provided the egg, another the DNA, and a third carried the cloned embryo. The used for the production of Dolly is somatic cell nuclear transfer, where the cell nucleus from an adult cell is transferred into an unfertilized oocyte whose nucleus has been removed by the process of irradiation. The hybrid cell is then stimulated to divide by an electric shock, and when it develops into a blastocyst it is implanted in a surrogate mother.

Scientists used a Scottish blackface ewe as the cytoplasmic donor (oocyte was used) in the cloning of Dolly sheep. 

Dolly was a female domestic sheep, and the first mammal cloned from an adult somatic cell, using the process of nuclear transfer. It carries the gene for antihemophilic IX.
