Pumped-storage hydroelectricity is a type of hydroelectric energy storage that uses two reservoirs, one at a higher elevation than the other. Water is pumped from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir when electricity is available and cheap, and then released from the upper reservoir to the lower reservoir when electricity is needed and expensive.
