The SDGs are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015, with the aim of eradicating poverty and hunger, protecting the planet, and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals, each with specific targets and indicators to measure progress.

SDG 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, including eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and girls, and ensuring their full and effective participation in all spheres of life.

SDG 7 has three main targets: to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all; to double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix; and to improve energy efficiency by 20%.

SDG 13 aims to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, including by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy, and building resilience to climate-related disasters.

SDG 16 has three main targets: to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development; to provide access to justice for all; and to build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.

SDG 12 aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, including by reducing waste, promoting resource efficiency, and adopting sustainable lifestyles.

SDG 17 has three main targets: to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development; to mobilize additional financial resources for developing countries; and to promote technology transfer and capacity building.

SDG 8 aims to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work for all, including by promoting sustainable tourism, supporting entrepreneurship, and investing in infrastructure.

SDG 10 has three main targets: to reduce income inequality within and among countries; to promote social inclusion and equal opportunities for all; and to empower and promote the social, economic, and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status.

SDG 3 aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, including by reducing maternal and child mortality, ending preventable deaths, and promoting mental health and well-being.

SDG 4 has three main targets: to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all; to increase the number of children and young people who have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education; and to ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable, and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.

SDG 11 aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, including by providing affordable housing, improving public transportation, and promoting sustainable urban planning.

SDG 14 has three main targets: to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development; to prevent and reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution; and to minimize and address the impacts of ocean acidification, including through enhanced scientific cooperation at all levels.

SDG 15 aims to protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss.
