Polymers can be made in both ways. Cotton is a polymer of cellulose.

Swimwear has nothing to do with the strength of fibre or its warmth. Swimwear should have an easy contact with water and it should also get dried up quickly. Nylon possesses dip and dry property, therefore it is used to make swimwear.

The most essential characteristic for selecting a material for making parachutes and ropes for rock climbing is its high tensile strength. Nylon fibres are stronger than even a steel wire and have very high tensile strength. Therefore, it is used for making parachutes and ropes.

Handles of screwdrivers and testers should be made of such materials, which do not allow current to pass through them. Otherwise, we may get an electric shock. Plastics are bad conductors of electricity.

Both thermosetting plastics and thermoplastics have almost the same tensile strength and durability. Both thermosetting and thermoplastics are non-biodegradable but thermoplastics can be recycled but thermo setting plastics cannot. The main difference between the two is that thermosetting plastics once set cannot be moulded again, but thermoplastic can be remoulded on heating. 

Bakelite is a poor conductor of both heat and electricity. So, it is used to make switches and utensil handles. 

Polymer is a compound having a high molecular mass and is made up of many small repeating units called monomers. Nylon, acrylic and silk  are polymers. However, amino acids are monomers of proteins.

Monomer is a small repeating unit which forms a large compound called polymer. Cellulose is also a polymer, which is made up of many repeating units of glucose. 

The fibres made by human beings are called synthetic fibres. Nylon, polyester and rayon are man-made and hence, synthetic fibres.

Rayon is a man-made fibre, which has properties similar to that of silk. It is obtained by chemical treatment of wood pulp. It is cheaper than silk and can be woven like silk fibres.

Fabric made from polyester does not wrinkle easily. It remains crisp and easy to wash. So, it is quite suitable to wear it during the journey.

Plastics are easily mouldable, i.e. they can be shaped into any form. So, plastic articles are available in all the possible shapes and sizes.

Plastics are poor conductors of electricity and heat, so they are used to make handles of screw drivers and coverings of electrical equipments.

Plastics do not get burnt easily and release a lot of poisonous fumes in the atmosphere causing air pollution. Hence, it advised not to burn plastic materials.

Plastic takes several years to decompose and the burning of synthetic fibres is quite slow.
